Notes There is no doubt that Islam posed a great threat to Europe, especially during the Ottoman expansion, and although Western civilization gradually absorbed this threat over time, dealing with it in the future remained a troubling matter. This study attempts to shed light on the main statements included by W. S. Blunt in his important book, “The Future of Islam,” which he published in 1882. Although the aforementioned book is an expression of Blunt’s self-conviction, it was - in the end - part of the structure of European discourse, especially the elite of the Victorian era in Britain, towards Islam, and perhaps its greatest value remains in its embodiment of the same issues that contemporary Orientalism, in its various forms, continues to raise towards Islam. There is no doubt that Islam presented a great danger to Europe, especially during the Ottoman expansion. In time, the Western civilization managed to absorb this threat, though it remains a matter of worry in the future. This study attempts to shed light on the main issues which were contained in W.C. Blunt's valuable work entitled 'The Future of Islam' which was published in 1882. Though the book in question is an expression of his conviction, it is part of European discourse, especially the Victorian elite era in Britain and their attitude towards Islam. The book's value may lie in its emphasis on the same issues which were re-produced by contemporary Orientalism and the way it addressed Islam.
