The study addresses the historical development and internal structure of the twin cities: Ramallah and Al-Bireh, located fifteen kilometers north of the city of Jerusalem. Over the past fifty years, Ramallah and Al-Bireh have transformed from two small neighboring villages into one integrated city. During the various periods of its growth, the city was exposed to different systems of government, such as Ottoman rule, the British Mandate, Jordanian rule, the Israeli occupation, and then the Palestinian National Authority. Each ruling regime had an impact on the spatial expansion of the city, whether by expansion or constriction. The factor analysis technique was used to study the internal structure of the city, by employing variables related to levels of education and types of professions at the levels of statistical enumeration areas. The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics provided data for the variables included in the study. The factor analysis highlighted four factors: 1- Low education and lower professions, 2- High education and higher professions, 3- Technical workers and clerks, 4- Skilled workers and agricultural workers. In addition, the saturations of statistical enumeration areas were used on the extracted factors, and then those saturations were distributed on the maps for each factor in order to analyze the extent of the city's spatial structure. It became clear from this study that the internal structure of the cities of Ramallah and Al-Bireh does not match any of the traditional theories of the structure of Western cities, and this requires conducting further studies on the internal structure of Arab cities with the aim of arriving at a general theory that explains their structure. The results of the factor analysis also showed that the statistical enumeration areas for the center of the two cities were satisfied - in general - on the four factors, which confirms the importance of this center, as is the case in all other Arab cities. It also became clear that the outskirts of the city began to turn into something similar to new suburbs inhabited by qualified and financially well-off people. It is worth mentioning that Israeli settlement besieged the city and limited its growth trends. Which led to the distortion of its natural shape. It is also clear that the two cities need a new structural plan that highlights the possibilities and justifications for their growth during the next quarter century.
