Notlar Britain had planned for a long time to invade Iraq or invade its south at the very least, so it sent its military forces to Fao on the sixth of November 1914, and this matter did not surprise other major countries for they follow the same path and the same attitude. After Fao, the British forces continued their advance towards Basra, and as a result the Ottoman government resorted to religious men, especially in Holy Najaf, to announce the Jihad and agree with the Iraqi tribes allover the country and their sheikhs, especially the sheikhs of Nasiriya, to confront the British occupation. The current research aims at explaining the causes of the British occupation of Iraq and highlighting the role of the tribes of Nasiriyah in resisting the British occupation from 1914 to 1920. the researcher selected this topic for its great importance in the history of Iraq and the history of Nasiriya tribes and their honorable situation in resisting the occupation, rejecting injustice and grievance and standing together as one hand against colonialism.
