Notlar Handbook on making astrological judgments based on the rising of Sirius (الشعرى). As with the first item (ff. 3r-18r) in the present manuscript, this text belongs to the genre of Islamicate occult scientific literature known as the pseudo-Aristotelian Hermetica, which takes its name from the fact that it is made up of texts purporting to be accounts of the teachings of Hermes (هرمس) on various subjects transmitted by Aristotle (أرسطاطاليس) sometimes, although not explicitly here, for the benefit of his pupil Alexander the Great. The beginning of the text (transcribed below) states that it is by Hermes, was translated 'from the ancient language' (من اللسان القديم) by 'Nuqṭawayh (vocalisation uncertain) the sage' (نقطويه الحكيم) and was subsequently extracted from the Treasured Book on Secrets (الكتاب المخزون في الأسرار) by Aristotle. This text is numbered 6 (و) in the present collection. Ends (f. 89r, lines 6-8): ...
