Notlar Brown Oriental leather binding with fore-edge flap and envelope flap; central ornament of the covers: Almond with lobed perimeter and an infill of floral scrolls on golden background; below the bevelled corners three small golden rosette stamp; frameborder of lines and a band with golden S-stamps; design of the envelope flap equals the covers; doublures of the front cover and the envelope flap of paper, of the back cover of cloth, of the fore-edge flap of leather; red quarter leather slipcase with covers and fore-edge flap of paper — f. 14b: ʿUnwān: golden hasp motif frame-ruled in black from which red ornamental rays reach into the margin ff. 14b-15a: text area frame-ruled with a golden band in red-black lines — black, red, green — Arabic script → Naskh — paper — Al- Qazwīnīʾs revised version from the year 674/1275 of his geographical work ʿAjā'ib al-buldān dated 661/1263. In the Āthār al-bilād the earth is divided in seven climate zones (iqlīm), and its cities, countries, mountains, rivers etc. are described a alphabetical order. The description of the cities and countries contain geographical and historical information as well as biographies of known personalities of the relevant places. The work opens with three introductive chapters. Doublure of the front cover: Latin entry that lacunae begin after the entry on the city of Ghazna (f. 184b). Another remark: collated until here. ff. 6b-12b: table of content written by another hand ff. 15b, 16b, 122b, 184b: further collation entries f. 203b: Note of the copyist that he found the gap in the authoritative text f. 209b: Note of the copyist that al-Qazwīnī was one of the saints (al-auliyā') and performed wonders, of which Zayn al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Ra'ūf Muḥammad ibn Tāj al-ʿĀrifīn al-Munāwī al-Shāfiʿī (d. 1031/1622; GAL II/305-307 S II/417; Kaḥḥāla V/220) mentioned some in his al-Ṭabaqāt al-ṣughrā (= Irghām auliyā' al-shayṭān bi-dhikr manāqib auliyā' al-raḥmān). f. 212b: Verse by Abū al-ʿAlā' Aḥmad ibn ʿAbdallāh ibn Sulaymān al-Maʿarrī (d. 449/1058; EI V/927-935; GAL I/254-255 S I/449-454; Kaḥḥāla I/290-294; Ziriklī I/157). The quires of the manuscript are marked by the abbreviation كـ (for kurrāsa) with the relevant number on the corresponding first recto-page.
