Notlar	bark — no illustrations apart from a few bindu (chapter markers) As it is generally the case with Batak bark books, both sides of the long strip of bark contain text. The two sides are named Side A and Side B. The first page of the bark book is A1. The opposite side of A1 is B1. The text runs, in this ms., and also in most other Batak bark books, from A1 to the last page of the strip of bark, which is here A48. The text is then continued on B48 and runs down to B1. Sometimes the first and/or the last page or pages are left blank. In this ms. page B48 was left blank. The first pages of Side A contain short texts that generally begin with jaha dumatang (when ... comes, when ... happens), which is often followed by ruma ni (the [divination] house of). The remainder of the manuscript is concerned with the Parmanuhon – the divination by means of a cock. After the datu (magician) has cut off the neck of a cock it is put under a basket. Omens are taken from the position in which it is found when the basket is lifted. The ms. deals in detail with the position of the various parts of the fowl in relation to the eight points of the compass.
