Notlar red leather binding with gilded embossing at the edges and in the centre — margins with floral decoration — black, red, gold — paper — According to the Shamsa dedication to Antoine-Louis-Henri Polier de Bottens (1741-1795), the album with the volume number "Volume troisieme" (f. 1a) was completed in Faizabad on 22 February 1776, before Polier entered the service of the Mughal emperor Šāh ʿĀlam II (r. 1760–1806) in Delhi in March 1776. The unusually large-format album is composed of double pages, each with a calligraphy on the left and a miniature on the right. It contains paintings of processions and festivals at the Mughal court from the 17th century, six images of Mughal elephants, inscribed with names and partly signed (f. 8a, 9a, 12a, 14a, 22a and 24a), two copies after Safavid works (f. 5a and 19a), two miniatures from the Deccan (f. 2a and 4a), and three portraits of Mughal nawabs and rulers from the 18th century (f. 1b, 18a, 30a). The calligraphic pieces, 15 of which are signed, date from the 17th and 18th centuries.
