Notlar	provisionally bound in a thick blue paper binding — Pegon script rubrication for macapat sign (pupuh and pada), The Arabic writing is vocalized throughout. The writing is not very good but on the whole sufficiently clear. The orthography is deficient. — Anbiya, or Carita Satus, the Book of the Prophets, modern Javanese version in macapat metre of an Arabic history of the Prophets of old, according to the Kur’ān. The ms. was written in Bangkalan, island of Madura, for the use of a Madurese captain (kaptin satah, on the General Staff) of the Netherlands East India army (the Kumpéni, Company) who had served in Makasar, Ambon and Padang, in Betawi (Batavia) and Mentaram. The scribe, apparently the captain’s brother-in-law, was a pious haji, called Samsu’ddīn. Perhaps the writing of the edifying religious book for the use and at the cost of the soldier who had fought in the Service of the infidel Kumpeni and came home safe and as a rich man, was considered to be an atonement for his sin of wordliness. On the flyleaf a small German note is affixed, referring to the Arabic script, called Pégon script, and the contents of the ms. (“Erzählungen von mehreren Propheten, von Jusup, Musa, Jesus, Muhammed etc.”).
