"The Shah Tahmasp Album compiled around the middle of sixteenth century and preserved at the Istanbul Library (F. 1422) has eighty-nine folios with central panels bearing both images and calligraphy speciments in three languages: Persian, Arabic and Chaghatay Turkish. While noting the importance of the album, previous scholarship tended to focus on the folios that include figurative examples, largely overlooking the calligraphies. This study, in contrast, draws greater attention to the latter to understand better the significance of this compilation. It categorizes these examples according to the type of their texts, records their scripts, determines whether they are signed and/or dated, as well as continuous or fragmentary, and identifies each as far as possible"--Page 4 of cover
