Binding: Pasteboards faced in marbled paper (blue and salmon) with spine, fore-edge flap and edges/turn-ins in dark red leather (marbled paper faced, leather edged, framed binding) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in laid paper ; sewn in pink thread, two stations ; in poor condition with much abrasion, lifting and losses of paper and leather, delamination of boards, pest damage, etc. Support: European laid paper with 9 laid lines per cm. (horizontal) and chain lines spaced 28 mm. apart ; watermarks include triple mount with bird in profile in circle (compare Piccard no.153741 and 153742) ; well-sized and burnished ; much staining. Decoration: Keywords, some titles, section headings, and some glosses rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of red discs ; written area of incipit page surrounded by gold frame, written area elsewhere surrounded by red rule-border. Script: Large, bold naskh-nastaʻlīq (talik) ; sans serif ; characteristic descent of words to baseline ; sweeping descenders and elongated horizontal strokes. Layout: Written in 13 and roughly 7 lines per page ; written area of third work divided to three columns with verbs appearing in the two outer columns and elucidation on the diagonal in the center column ; frame-ruled. Collation: i, 10 V(100), IV+3 (111), i ; chiefly quinions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization. Incipit: "قال المفتقر الى الله الودود احمد بن علي ابن مسعود غفر الله له ولوالديه واحسن اليهما واليه اعلم ان الصرف ام العلوم والنحو ابوها ..." Title supplied by cataloguer. Ms. codex.
