Ms. 601 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.44, copied by Aḥmad ibn ʻAbd al-Raḥīm [?] ibn ʻAbd Allāh ibn Faḍl Allāh al-Jawādī al-Shāfiʻī with transcription completed ("wa-kāna al-farāgh minhu...") 14 Shaʻbān 836 [ca. 5 April 1433]. Accompanying materials: a. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda -- b. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas. Former shelfmark: From recto of opening leaf (p.1) "IL 363" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Unbound ; sewing stations evident but no threads remaining ; traces of envelope flap on opening (outermost) leaf ; housed in heavy wrapper for protection. Support: non-European laid paper with 20 laid lines (horizontal) in 16 mm. and chain lines (vertical) arranged in groups, a set of 4 and two sets of 3 with 7-9 mm. between the chain lines, 36 mm between the set of 4 and first set of 3 and 52 mm between the sets of 3 ; burnished. Script: Naskh ; Mamlūk-era 'Syrian' or Egyptian hand ; virtually sans serif, with alifs tapering at the bottom, mainly closed counters are mostly closed , somewhat informal but quite readable ; occasionally fully pointed and vocalized (mostly ḥadīth excerpts) and elswehere neither pointed nor vocalized. Layout: Written in 25 lines per page ; frame-ruled (misṭarah used). Collation: IV+1 (9), IV+1 (18), II (22) ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization. Colophon: "Scribal," triangular, reads "وكان الفراغ منه صبيحة يوم السبت رابع عشر شعبان المبارك من شهور سنة ست وثلثين وثمانمائة احسن الله خاتمها ... على يد اضعف خلق الله تعالى واحوجهم الى عفوه وكرمه احمد بن عبد الرحيم بن عبد الله بن فضل الله الجوادي الشافعي ..." Explicit: "قلت ما تقول في موطا مالك بن انس قال اكتبوه وهذا اخر ماردناه [ما اردناه] من مناقب الامام الشاعفي على ما ذكره الحافظ ابو عبد الله الذهبي وجميع ما ذكره هو وزدنا عليه شئيا يسيرا بالنسبة الى ما ذكر في منافيه والى ما ذكر من محاسنه ومناقبه في التواريخ كتاريخ ابي القاسم بن عساكر وابي بكر الخطيب ... وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد واله واصحابه وعترته اجمعين" Incipit: "الحمد لله رب العالمين واشهد ان لا اله الا الله الملك الحق المبين ... اما بعد فهذا كتاب اذكر فيه ترجمة الامام ابي عبد الله محمد بن ادريس الشافعي ..."
