Ms. 602 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.154, transcription completed 13 Rabīʻ II 1022 [ca. 2 June 1613]. Accompanying materials: a. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas -- b. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda. -- c. Slip with note of Winifred Smeaton Thomas on missing leaf between pp.40-41. Former shelfmark: From interior of upper cover and spine label "IL 281" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Pasteboards covered in brown leathers (appear to have been cut down from already covered and decorated larger boards and the cut edges covered in another leather) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in untinted laid paper ; upper and lower covers carry tooled central binding binding ornament consisting of three dodecagons (accented with gold-paint) inscribed within a circle (compare Weisweiler class. W 24) surrounded by a heavy band in a series of s-shapes set in rules as well as an outermost series of x-shaped stamps with radiating gold-painted strokes (x-shaped stamps also appear within the dodecagons) ; detached floral pendants and a rule border complete the composition ; sewing mainly gone though two stations evident, many bifolia split ; overall in poor condition with much abrasion, staining, delamination of boards, lifting and losses of leather, etc. ; likely never attached to text block (simply serves as a wrapper). Support: European laid paper with 8 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 26-27 mm. apart (horizontal), and anchor in circle with leaf above watermark (see pp.12-13, etc.) ; burnished to glossy, sturdy and dark cream in color. Decoration: Keywords accented with red (over elongated horizontal strokes) ; textual dividers in the form of red discs ; some abbreviation symbols rubricated. Script: Naskh ; neat, round 'Syrian' or Egyptian [?] hand in a medium line ; virtually serifless with slight effect of tilt to the left, curvilinear descenders, pointing mainly in distinct or conjoined dots, partially vocalized. Layout: Written in 19 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: i, V (10), V-1 (19), 5 V(69), IV-1 (76), i ; chiefly quinions ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes flyleaves).
