Support: non-European (likely Persian and Arab) laid paper ; main type a Persian (?) laid paper, perhaps 14th century with laid lines running horizontally spaced roughly 7-8 laid lines per cm., chain lines as sporadic short lengths or perhaps paired in some leaves, lightly sized and burnished, some sagging of laid lines, many inclusions, and undissolved fibers ; second type (from hand change on) likely Arab laid paper of 15th century with chain lines grouped in threes, 9-10 mm. between the chain lines of each group and roughly 48 mm. between the groups (see fol.304), laid lines running horizontally spaced roughly 8 laid lines per cm., lightly burnished ; front flyleaf/pastedown in European laid paper with laid lines running horizontally spaced 7 laid lines per cm. chain lines running vertically spaced evenly about 28 mm. apart with crown, star, crescent watermark ; back flyleaf/pastedown in European laid paper with laid lines running horizontally spaced roughly 11 laid lines per cm. and watermark with serpent on cross above bull's head with eyes, ears, and horns (compare Heawood, 3784, pl. 508) ; some moisture and insect damage, obstructing text. Script: Naskh ; two main hands, with fol.235b (p.470) and following supplied in second hand; first a Transoxanian or Persian hand, virtually serifless, with slight effect of words descending to baseline and mainly closed counters ; second a Persian or Turkish hand, quite rounded with mainly closed counters, mainly sans serif but with occasional right sloping head-serif on lām, ṭāʼ, etc. ; headings in larger heavier script approaching tawqīʻ, quite consistent use of the lām alif al-mukhaffafah ; occasionally vocalized. Layout: Written in 27-30 lines per page (most often 29) ; frame-ruled with impression of ruling board evident. Collation: i, III (6), 18 V (186), III (192), III+1 (199), 12 V (319), i ; chiefly quinions ; quire numbering in the form of "juzʼ" with an underlined number, appearing at the beginning of the quire ; however, many quires are not marked (perhaps cut off in trimming) and some juzʼ marks do not correspond to the beginning of the quires ; appears to be lacking matter at close where it cuts off abruptly (see catchword) ; fols. 192a-194a (p.383-387) blank and unmarked, Surat Maryam (19) is started on p.382, but continues for only half a page then restarts on p. 388 ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals with many mistakes, repaginated during cataloguing.
