Three taqrīẓs (taqārīẓ) are included following the colophon. | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 217 Origin: As appears in colophon on fol.33b-34a, copied, vocalized, and glossed by Mehmet Nuri, known as Niyazi [?], son of İbrahim known as Etham el-Vehbî Efendi. Transcription finished "wa-qad waqaʻa al-farāgh min tabyīḍihā..." in the first tenth [العشر الاول] of Ramaḍān 1293 [September 1876]. Binding: Pasteboards covered in black leather ; Type III binding (without flap) with Western elements ; pastedowns and flyleaves in shell marbled paper (lavender, blue, red, yellow, and white) ; upper and lower covers bear gold-stamped central panel (oval surrounded by floral vegetal band), floral cornerpieces, and border in architectural design with floral accents ; gold-stamped floral vegetal decoration in bands on spine ; sewn in heavy cream thread, four stations (in lieu of primaries) ; no endbands ; in good condition with minor abrasion, staining, etc. Support: non-European laid paper ; laid lines running vertically, fairly distinct but with some curving and sagging, spaced roughly 12 laid lines per cm. ; chain lines faintly visible, but quite indistinct ; quite crisp ; fairly translucent ; some inclusions and undissolved fibers visible ; well-burnished ; surfaced tinted to a rosy pink. Decoration: Illuminated headpiece (ʻunwān) on fol.1b (p.2) consisting of rectangular panel dominated by floral decoration in pinks, greens, red and gold consisting of a central bouquet, encircled by flowers and flanked by swirling leaves and blossoms all on a field of stippled gold ; the piece is bordered by a well in white with red cross pattern ; illuminated headpiece on fol.33b (p.66) consisting of rectangular piece with empty gold cartouche flanked by intertwining floral vegetal decoration (evoking 'arabesque') in gold, white, blue, and red on fields of blue ; piece is surrounded by bands of gold flanking band of white with blue cross pattern ; illuminated headpiece on fol.34a (p.67) consisting of rectangular panel with empty gold cartouche flanked by floral vegetal design in stippled gold on fields of red ; piece is surrounded by bands of gold flanking band of white with blue cross pattern ; frame consisting of a series of gilt bands of varying thickness ; bordering the margin a gilt band outlined by black fillets ; textual dividers in the form of rosettes bordered by three dots (in gold, white and red), large floral pieces in gold, white, and red ; small diagram (a circle divded to quarters) pertaining to a discussion of lunar quarters, etc. in margin of fol.14a (p.27) ; text rubricated with abbreviations and numerals corresponding to gloss, etc. in red. Script: Two distinct hands, one for the matn and one for the sharḥ, though apparently supplied by the same copyist ; matn supplied in a naskh, splendid Ottoman hand, seriffed with right-sloping head serif on all shafts apart from free-standing alif, slight effect of tilt to the left, kāf mabsūṭah preferred, fully vocalized ; sharḥ (marginal and interlinear) supplied in a a naskh/nastaʻlīq, with letterforms characteristic of nastaʻlīq, very slight effect of slant to right and words gently descending to baseline, mainly closed counters, pointed to convention and not vocalized. Layout: Written in 13 lines per page ; frame-ruled (impression of ruling board clearly evident, particularly in margin). Collation: iii, 3 V(30), III(36), iii ; chiefly quinions ; final leaf left blank ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals supplied during cataloguing.
