This copy lacks the introductory matter but opens directly with Kitāb al-Ṭahārah. See Mich. Isl. Ms. 102 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.221, copied by Muṣṭafá ibn ʻAlī ibn [?] Abū [sic] al-Qāsim (Mustafa Ali Ebulkasem) with transcription finished in the year 1089 [1678 or 9]. Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 69. Treatise on law." Binding: Pasteboards covered in once marbled paper (blue, salmon, etc.) with dark brown leather over spine, foreedge flap and edges/turn-ins ; Type III binding (without flap) ; board linings in laid European paper ; sewn in cream thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in red and cream, fair condition ; overall in poor condition with severe abrasion, lifting and losses of paper and leather, staining, moisture damage, pest damage, some delamination of boards, some spine slant (slightly cocked), etc. Support: European laid paper of two types ; mainly with 7 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 28 mm. apart (horizontal), three crescents (tre lune) watermark, thick and burnished ; a second type appears in the opening and final quires with 12-13 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 24-40 mm. apart (horizontal), coat of arms watermark with lions flanking cross in shield above two circles, thin but sturdy and well-burnished ; some staining. Decoration: Occasional use of red ink to accent section headings. Script: Naskh ; clear Turkish hand ; virtually serifless, though occasional head serif appears on alif of lām alif ligature, forms a loop to resemble numeral ٩ ; slight effect of tilt to the left ; many open counters ; pointing mainly in distinct dots ; some elongation of horizontal strokes and occasional sweeping descenders ; alif following initial kāf often curves up to form closed loop with shaqq of kāf ; in latter quires, a more vertical, compact hand, showing influence of nastaʻlīq with occasional head serifs, rectilinear descenders, slight effect of words descending to baseline. Layout: Written in 11 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: 11 V(110), I (112) ; chiefly quinions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization.
