Notlar About: Careful copy of selected commentary in 47 and 29 sections on the second and third bābs of al-Taftāzānī's (d. 793/1390) Tahdhīb al-manṭiq wa-al-kalām, followed by further commentary on the Tahdhīb including glosses by the copyist, the anonymous "ا ع" . | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 988 Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; paper etc suggests transcription in Egypt, perhaps early 20th century for some sections and later for others with copyist identified. Eventually bound for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974). As appears on the 'title page' for certain sections (see p.245, i.e. 'title page' for the 15th Ṣaḥīfah on the third bāb, etc.), copied by the anonymous "ا ع" who has identified himself as the copyist of other manuscripts eventually bound for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974), see Isl. Ms. 905, Isl. Ms. 910, Isl. Ms. 937, Isl. Ms. 981, Isl. Ms. 998 and likely Isl. Ms. 929. Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 137 Binding: Boards covered in dark green cloth with dark green leather over spine (quarter binding) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetal pattern in green ; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "تهذيب المنطق والكلام | J.H.D." ; sewing difficult to examine ; stuck-on endbands (blue and white stripe) ; overall in fairly good condition. Support: Machine wove paper of two main types ; one type, cream in color with watermarks of what appears to be a head portrait (bordered in branches with a ribbon) and tuğra / ṭughrā of the sultan (see pp.2, 4, 16, 18, etc.) ; another type brown in color, with no watermarks visible ; one bifolium in ruled (graph) wove paper near opening (see pp.5-8). Decoration: Text executed entirely in red ink. Script: Ruqʻah ; quick, compact hand initially in a bold line, later in a much thinner line ; serifless and freely ligatured with effect of inclination to the right and of words descending to baseline, mainly closed counters, pointing somewhat careless and in strokes rather than distinct dots, final yāʼ usually unpointed. Layout: Written mainly in 17-21 lines per page. Collation: Leaves between sections left blank ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (follows p.299 with p.230, and thereafter off by 70).
