Notlar About: Careful copy of the commentary by Muḥammad Ismāʻīl ibn al-Sumayʻ al-Iṣfahānī (d.1860 or 61) on al-Ḥikmah al-ʻarshīyah, the popular work on knowledge of God and eschatology by Mullā Ṣadrā Shīrāzī (d.1640), apparently followed by Asrār al-āyāt, also by Mullā Ṣadrā, another copy of the opening commentary, and Kitāb Uthūlūjiyā (Thuyūlūjiyā) Arīsṭū (i.e. the Theology of Aristotle or Theologia Aristotelis, see Isl. Ms. 910). | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 920 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.399, transcription of Kitāb Asrār al-āyāt (and likely preceding work as well), completed 8 Dhū al-Ḥijjah 1358 corresponding to 18 January 1940 and 9 Ṭūbah [1656]. As appears in colophon on p.669, transcription of Uthūlūjiyā Arīsṭū completed 7 Jumādá I 1354, corresponding to 7 August 1935. All likely transcribed in Egypt, and eventually bound together for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974). Several of the included works likely copied from printed editions. Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 69 Binding: Boards covered in dark green cloth with dark green leather over spine (quarter binding) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetal pattern in green ; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "شرح زين العابدين | J.H.D." ; sewing difficult to examine ; stuck-on endbands (blue and white stripe) ; overall in fairly good condition though with acid burn where pressure sensitive tape has been applied to repair front flyleaf. Support: Lined / ruled wove paper of at least two types. Script: Ruqʻah ; quick, compact, modern hand in a thin to bold line (line thickness changes) ; serifless and freely ligatured with mainly closed counters, slight effect of inclination to the right and of words descending to baseline, pointing somewhat careless and in strokes rather than distinct dots.
