Notlar About: Second of two volumes constituting a fine copy of Qāḍīkhān's (d.1196) treatise on fiqh, preceded by a table of contents (pp.5-7) ; this volume opening in Kitāb al-Ijāzāt and concluding in Kitāb al-Ḥajr. | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 562 v.2 Origin: As appears in colophon on pp.575-576, copied by Yūsuf ibn Khiḍr [Khaḍir] ibn Muḥammad al-Bāqānī al-Ḥanbalī with transcription completed in Ṣafar 957 [February-March 1550]. Former shelfmark: From interior of upper cover "IL 264" (likely supplied by Yahuda). Binding: Pasteboards now covered in red cloth (evidence of tooled and stamped leather beneath) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in brown wove paper ; upper and lower covers carry stamped mandorla under the cloth ; sewn in dark cream thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in red and yellow, good condition ; overall in fairly good condition with some staining, abrasion, lifting of cloth at board corners, etc. Support: non-European (likely Arab) laid paper with 9 laid lines per cm. (horizontal) and chain lines (vertical) grouped in threes with 13-16 mm. between chains and 30-35 mm. between groups (see p.34, etc.) ; sturdy and dense, well-burnished to glossy ; later flyleaves in European laid paper with anchor in circle watermark (visible in back flyleaf). Decoration: Keywords, section headings, and abbreviation symbols rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of inverted commas in red. Script: Naskh ; elegant 'Syrian' (Palestinian) hand ; partially but irregularly seriffed with slight effect of tilt to the left, curvilinear descenders (some sweeping), pointing in distinct dots, some free assimilation of letters, etc. Layout: Written in 29 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: ii, 28 V(280), III (286), iii ; almost exclusively quinions ; catchwords present (occasionally cut off) ; foliation in black ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes flyleaves). Colophon: "Scribal," reads "تم الجز الثاني من كتاب قاضي خان على مؤلفه الرحمة والرضوان على يد العبد الفقير الحقير المعترف بالعجز والتقصير راجي رحمة ربه اللطيف الحنين المنان يوسف بن الحاج خضر [؟] بن الحاج محمد الباقاني نسبا والحنبلي مذهبا غفر الله له ولوالديه ولمن قرأ او نظر فيه ودعا له بالمغفرة ولجميع المسلمين ... وذلك في صفر الخير سنة ٩۵۷" Explicit: "قال ابو القاسم رحمه الله لا يجوز وفقه واذ اذن له القاضي فهما افتيا بصحة الحجر على الحر البالغ كما هو مذهب ابي يوسف ومحمد رحمهما الله والله اعلم بالصواب واليه المرجع والمآب" Incipit: "كتاب الاجازات فصل في الالفاظ التي تنعقد بها الاجازة وفي تعليق انعقادها بالشرط ..."
