Ms. 562 v.2 Origin: As appears in colophon on pp.575-576, copied by Yūsuf ibn Khiḍr [Khaḍir] ibn Muḥammad al-Bāqānī al-Ḥanbalī with transcription completed in Ṣafar 957 [February-March 1550]. Former shelfmark: From interior of upper cover "IL 264" (likely supplied by Yahuda). Binding: Pasteboards now covered in red cloth (evidence of tooled and stamped leather beneath) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in brown wove paper ; upper and lower covers carry stamped mandorla under the cloth ; sewn in dark cream thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in red and yellow, good condition ; overall in fairly good condition with some staining, abrasion, lifting of cloth at board corners, etc. Support: non-European (likely Arab) laid paper with 9 laid lines per cm. (horizontal) and chain lines (vertical) grouped in threes with 13-16 mm. between chains and 30-35 mm. between groups (see p.34, etc.) ; sturdy and dense, well-burnished to glossy ; later flyleaves in European laid paper with anchor in circle watermark (visible in back flyleaf). Decoration: Keywords, section headings, and abbreviation symbols rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of inverted commas in red. Script: Naskh ; elegant 'Syrian' (Palestinian) hand ; partially but irregularly seriffed with slight effect of tilt to the left, curvilinear descenders (some sweeping), pointing in distinct dots, some free assimilation of letters, etc. Layout: Written in 29 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: ii, 28 V(280), III (286), iii ; almost exclusively quinions ; catchwords present (occasionally cut off) ; foliation in black ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes flyleaves).
