Notlar About: Fine copy of the manual of arithmetic Bahāʼ al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Ḥusayn al-ʻĀmilī (d.1621), followed by commentary by ʻUmar ibn Aḥmad al-Māʼī al-Chillī (fl. 17th cent.). Copyist has transcribed what appears to be the opening of another ms. copy of Khulāṣat al-ḥisāb on the 'title page' (p.1). | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 118 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.64 and p.190, both works copied by ʻUmar ibn Aḥmad ibn Shāhīn in Erzurum. Transcription of first work finished Rabīʻ II 1127 [April-May 1715]. Transcription of second work finished final days of Jumādá II 1127 [July 1715]. Accompanying materials: Slip with notes (paginated pp.65-66). Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 78. Khulasat al-hisab." Binding: Pasteboards covered in paper (once pink with floral pattern in gold, see envelope flap) with spine, fore-edge flap, and edges/turn-ins in brown leather ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in laid paper ; sewn in cream thread, two stations, though sewing is very often missing ; overall in quite poor condition with significant losses of paper on upper and lower cover, significant abrasion, staining, lifting and losses of leather, delamination of boards, etc. ; repairs in assorted leathers. Support: European laid paper with 11 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 26 mm. apart (horizontal), three hats watermark ; tearing and staining. Decoration: Keywords, section headings, abbreviations, and numerals rubricated ; written area (including ruled margins) through p.20 surrounded by red rule-border ; textual divders in red ; many geometric diagrams in red.
