Ms. 588 Origin: As appears in colophon on fol.130a, copied by Ṭāhir [Kāmil ?] ibn ʻUthmān. Copying completed ("atmamtuhu bi-ʻawn Allāh...") in the early morning of Saturday, 1st of Dhū al-Qaʻdah 735 [ca. 23 June 1335]. Accompanying materials: a. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas. -- b. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda. -- c. two slips of European paper with excerpts and comments (between fol.14-15 and fol.170-171). Former shelfmark: From inner front cover and pasted label on spine, "IL 370a" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Pasteboard covered in dark brown leather; Type III binding (without flap); upper and lower cover carry vestiges of a polylobed central medallion (compare W 80-81) and border designs with gold-tooled dots and blind-tooled lines in a geometric pattern (compare BNF arabe 2898); doublures of striped cloth in blue, brown and white; much repaired, but in poor condition. Support: non-European (likely Arab) laid paper; laid lines running vertically and spaced roughly 8 laid lines per cm; chain lines running horizontally faintly visible grouped in twos or possibly threes; groups spaced roughly 60 mm. apart. Decoration: Text rubricated with section headings in red. Script: Naskh; clear Eastern hand; essentially sans serif, kāf mashkūlah favored over kāf mabsūṭah; fully pointed and rarely vocalized; colophon in sans serif taʻlīq. Layout: Written in two columns of 11 lines. Collation: 2 VI (24), 2 V (44), 8 IV (108), 2 III (120), 5 I (130), 1 (131); catchwords lacking; pagination in pencil, Western numerals (referenced in cataloguing). Colophon: "Scribal," rectangular, reads: "اتممته بعون الله وحسن توفيقه يوم السبت وقت الضحى في غرة ذي القعدة سنة خمس وثلثين وسبعمائة على يد العبد الضعيف المحتاج الى رحمة الله تعالى وغفرانه طاهر [كامل ؟] بن عثمان غفر الله لمن قرا ودعا لكاتبه بالمغفرة" Explicit: "جنات عدن وقصور ناعمه" Incipit: "بسم الاله رب كل عبد والحمد لله ولي الحمد ثم التحيات بغير عدد على النبي المصطفى محمد وبعد قد قال ابو حفص عمر..."
