Ms. 478 Origin: As appears in colophons on p.295 and p.296, copied by Muḥammad ibn ʻAlī ibn Abī ʻAbd Allāh al-Rābiṭī [?] al-Tilimsānī with transcription completed in the first part of Ṣafar 1047 [?] [June-July 1637]. Accompanying materials: a. Acquisitions slip from Yahuda (paginated pp.1-2) -- b. Inventory cataloguing slip in hand of Winifred Smeaton Thomas (paginated pp.3-4). Former shelfmark: From inner front cover and spine label, "IL 60b" (likely supplied by Yahuda, see acquisitions slip). Binding: Pasteboards covered in brown leather with and dark red leather over spine and fore edge flap (likely repairs) ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in pale pink or beige laid paper ; upper and lower covers carry blind-stamped (with now beige paper onlays) mandorla (filled with symmetrical vegetal composition) with tooled rosette accents (small circular and large eight petaled) and tooled rules ; now sewn in white thread, two stations ; worked chevron endbands in dark navy blue and yellow, quite good condition ; overall in somewhat fair condition with some abrasion, staining, etc. Support: European laid paper with 8 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 36-39 mm. apart (horizontal) and any watermarks not visible ; sturdy and fairly transluscent though thick, well-burnished to glossy with burnisher's marks visible ; staining and tide lines. Decoration: Elegant headpiece at opening on p.6 consisting of rectangular piece carrying title in red and green, bordered in vegetal design of alternating green and red leaves, set off by palmette (ansa) ; section headings and keywords (mainly اللهم and محمد ) rubricated or in orange-red, green or yellow ink, varying by line ; textual dividers in the form of three red dots ; tailpieces at close of the first quarter (p.82), the first half (p.151), the third quarter (p.224) and close on p.296 ; final tailpiece consists of rectangular panel carrying title in black with yellow, red, and green accents, surrounded by a border in yellow with black geometric pattern and palmette cornerpieces and ansa (in green, yellow, red and black). Script: Maghribī script ; an elegant hand with occasional very slight inclination to the left and swooping descenders. Layout: Written in 23 lines per page. Collation: 11 VI (132), VI+3 (147) ; almost exclusively senions / sexternions ; p.175 left blank and marked (possibly by Yahuda) "بياض بالاصل والتعصيبة في قفاها" ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes inserts).
