Notlar About: Careful copy of an anonymous text on modern philosophy (compare texts in Isl. Ms. 908 v.2 and Isl. Ms. 916) with a selection from the letters of ʻAbd al-Bahāʼ ʻAbbās Afandī (d.1921) bound in preceding it. | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 913 Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; both texts likely copied in Egypt in the late 1930s and at some stage bound together for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974). Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 62 Binding: Boards covered in dark green cloth with dark green leather over spine (quarter binding) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetal pattern in green ; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "مدخل الفلسفة الحديثة | J.H.D." ; sewing difficult to examine ; stuck-on endbands (blue and white stripe) ; overall in fairly good condition. Script: Ruqʻah ; two quick, modern hands in a medium to bold line ; serifless and freely ligatured with mainly closed counters, slight effect of words descending to baseline, pointing somewhat careless and in strokes rather than distinct dots. Layout: Written in mainly 16 and 26 lines per page. Collation: Two distinct sections, each carrying a work, now bound together ; foliation in black ink, Hindu-Arabic numerals in opening section carrying Min Makātīb ʻAbd al-Bahāʼ which has verso of each leaf left blank ; opening leaf of a draft of another text on modern philosophy (see Isl. Ms. 916) mistakenly inserted after the opening leaf of the Bahai text (see p.3) ; pages between sections of second work (Madkhal al-falsafah al-ḥadīthah) left fully or partially blank to serve as 'title pages' (see pp.45, 65, 85, 105, 125, 145, 161 ), irregular internal pagination, Hindu-Arabic numerals, in some sections ; pagination in pencil (entire volume), Western numerals, supplied during digitization.
