Ms. 1002 Origin: As appears in colophon on p.207, copied by ʻAlī al-Batanūnī al-Mālikī with transcription completed 24 Jumādá II 1273 [ca. 19 February 1857]. Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 151 Binding: Boards covered in black cloth with black leather over spine (quarter binding) ; Western style binding ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetal pattern in pink and green ; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "كنوز الحقائق" ; sewn in white thread, five stations ; overall in fairly good condition with minor abrasion. Support: European (specifically Venetian made by the Galvani firm) laid paper with 7-8 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 30 mm. apart (horizontal), watermark of crescent with face (human profile) in shield (see pp.4, 96, 208, etc. and compare Walz, The Paper trade of Egypt and the Sudan, 88-9) and countermark of "V G" (see pp.2, 22, 92, 206, etc.), quite sturdy, cream in color, well-burnished ; some cockling and staining. Decoration: Headings, keywords and abbreviation symbols rubricated ; textual dividers in the form of inverted commas in red. Script: Naskh ; compact, somewhat angular Egyptian hand in a medium line ; partially though irregularly seriffed with right-sloping head-serif on occasional alif, effect of tilt to the left, slight effect of words descending to baseline, closed and open counters, pointing mainly in distinct dots (though three dots often represented by stroke looking like inverted comma), alif maqṣūrah pointed as yāʼ, kāf mashkūlah (mashqūqah) preferred. Layout: Written mainly in 25 lines per page divided to two columns (a layout which the copyist took to be intended by the author, see note in colophon on p.207) ; frame-ruled. Collation: i, 4 V(40), VI (52), 4 V(92), VI (104), i ; quinions alternating with senions in a regular pattern exemplary of the deliberation of the copyist who describes the discrepancy in number of quires between his copy and the exemplar from which he copied (i.e. the exemplar had ten additional quires due to that copyist not including two ḥadīth per line) in a note in the colophon (see p.207) ; quire numbering in the form of Hindu-Arabic numerals under letter kāf in upper outer corner of recto of opening leaf of each quire ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization. Colophon: "Scribal," mainly triangular, reads "هذا وقد وجدت النسخة التي نقلت منها زائدة على عشرة كراريس وسبب الزيادة ان الكتاب ربما كتب حديثا في سطر واحد مع ان غرض المؤلف ليس كذلك ولا سيما التراجم التي للحروف فانها اخذت نحو ورقة وبالجملة لو تحري الكاتب كتابة كل حديثين في سطر كما نيه عليه المؤلف اول الكتاب لم تزد النسخة على عشرة كراريس الا التراجم ونصف ورقة في الاول ونصف ورقة في الاخر هذا ووافق فراغ نسخه ليلة الخميس لست ليالي بقين من شهر جمادى الاخر او سبعة منه سنة الف ومائتين وثلاث وسبعين من الهجرة النبوية على صاحبها افضل الصلاة والسلام على يد افقر العباد واحوجهم لعفوه علي البتنوني المالكي عفي عنه بمنه وصلى الله على سيدنا محمد وعلى اله وصحبه وسلم كمل الكتاب تكاملت ..."
