Notlar About: Fine copy of what appears to be the second volume of al-Bayḍāwī's famous commentary on the Qurʼān, opening with Sūrat al-Kahf (18) verse 86, but due to a note on the incipit page (p.1) attributed to Abū al-Ḥasan Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn ʻAbd al-Raḥmān al-Bakrī al-Ṣiddīqī (d.1545) who composed several commentaries, one of which is entitled Tashīl al-sabīl fī fahm maʻānī al-tanzīl. Ms. temp. no. 91 Binding: Boards covered in black cloth with tan (green in some areas) leather over spine (quarter binding) ; Western style binding ; pastedowns and flyleaves in beige wove paper ; spine label carries title, author, and inventory number "جزء من التفسير الكبير ... الحسن البكرى سبط ال ... مجلد واحد ٨٣" ; still another spine label (near the tail) carries another inventory number "٢٨" ; edges of text block flecked with blue ; sewn in white thread over three recessed cords ; stuck-on endbands in red ; overall in fair condition with minor abrasion, lifting and losses of leather, etc. Support: European laid paper with 10 laid lines per cm. (horizontal), chain lines spaced 22-24 mm. apart (vertical), and watermark with small six-pointed star (partially visible in many leaves, see pp.10, 12, 14, 18, 24, 58, 162, etc.), sturdy, crisp and well-burnished to glossy, cream in color ; some staining. Decoration: Keywords and Qurʼānic text being commented upon rubricated ; written area surrounded by red double rule-border. Script: Naskh ; clear, compact Egyptian hand in a medium line ; serifless with only slight effect of tilt to the left, pointing in distinct dots, alif maqṣūrah pointed as yāʼ, kāf mashkūlah (mashqūqah) preferred. Layout: Written in 33 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: i, V-1 (9), 5 V(59), IV (67), 21 V(277), 4 (281), i ; almost exclusively quinions ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization.
