Notlar About: Careful though acephalous and incomplete copy of Muḥammad ibn Ḥamzah al-Fanārī's commentary on Ṣadr al-Dīn al-Qūnawī's (d.1274) chief philosophical work Miftāḥ ghayb al-jamʻ wa-al-wujūd, opening in the latter part of al-Aṣl al-rābiʻ and concluding in the opening part of the Khātimah. | Shelfmark: Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, Special Collections Research Center, Isl. Ms. 938 Origin: Lacks dated colophon ; likely copied in Egypt in the late 1930s and bound for James Heyworth-Dunne (d.1974). Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 87 Binding: Boards covered in dark green cloth with dark green leather over spine (quarter binding) ; pastedowns and flyleaves in wove paper printed with a floral vegetal pattern in green ; spine gold-stamped with title and decorative accents over raised bands "الفلسفة الذاتية | الفهقاني | J.H.D." ; sewing somewhat difficult to examine, but seemingly in heavy white thread over at least three stations (see p.8, 26, etc.) ; stuck-on endbands (blue and white stripe) ; overall in fairly good condition. Support: Lined wove paper of two different types, in two different sizes (compare the fifth gathering, pp.37-52). Decoration: Section headings 'rubricated' in a now purplish red ink ; chart / table (jadwal) on p.86 with the four spheres (al-aflāk al-arbaʻah), seven heavens (al-samawāt al-sabaʻ), and four elements (al-ʻanāṣir al-arbaʻah) with corresponding heavenly bodies, names of God, angels, etc. Script: Naskh ; clear hand in a thin to bold line (line thickness and size certainly changes, though appears to have been supplied by same copyist) ; mainly serifless with slight effect of tilt to the left and of words descending to baseline, curvilinear descenders, open and closed counters, pointing in strokes rather than distinct dots, final yāʼ usually unpointed. Layout: Written in 28-34 lines per page. Collation: i, IV (8), V (18), 2 IV(34), 5 V(84), i ; chiefly quinions with a few quaternions ; quire numbering in the form of Hindu-Arabic numerals accompanied by letter kāf (ك) appearing in the inner lower margin (near the gutter) of the opening recto of each gathering (begins with the third, see pp.1, 17, 37, 53, etc.), supplied in same pencil as original pagination (grey or blue) ; pagination in pencil, Hindu-Arabic numerals (through page ٩٢ grey pencil, from page ٩٣ blue pencil, with exception of pp.139-144) ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization. Explicit: "اصلا ومنشأ لجميع الصور الانسانية التخطيطية كما كان معنى محمد ص وحقيقته التي هي حقيقة الحقائق منشأ" Incipit: "وان كانت راجعة الى اصول حاصرة كالاسماء الذاتية التي هي مفاتيح الغيب التي كلياتها الحضرات الخمس كما مر ..."
