Ms. 1024 Origin: As appears in colophon at close on p.397 (now affixed to lower pastedown), transcription apparently completed in Rabīʻ I 1286 [i.e. June-July 1869]. Accompanying materials: a. Slip with description in hand of Jameson "Biographical text| Ḥadīth literature [crossed out] | [month] Rabīʻ al-awwal 1386? or 1286? | Brought to RBR on 10-27-70 by Mr. Eilts. | Purchased by Mr. Sulaiman from Librarie Tunisienne in 1967. Letters & invoice in MSS file" -- b. A few small pages torn from a printed book, text appears to be an excerpt from the listing of the Companions of the Prophet who took part in the Battle of Badr. Former shelfmark: Mich. Isl. Ms. temp. no. 173 Binding: Pasteboards covered in brown leather ; Type II binding (with flap) ; upper pastedown / board lining and decoratively trimmed hinge in brown and cream mottled paper (sponge painted or faux marbled look) ; upper and lower covers carry blind-stamped scalloped mandorla (filled with symmetrical vegetal composition) and pendants with tooled rosette accents and rule border ; design continues on envelope flap ; sewn in cream thread over three recessed cords ; worked chevron endbands in lime green and yellow, fair condition with minor losses to tailband ; overall in fair condition with some staining, moisture damage (especially to lower cover), lifting and losses of spine leather, etc. Support: European laid paper with 8 laid lines per cm. (vertical), chain lines spaced 30-32 mm. apart (horizontal), and watermark of crescent with face in profile in shield (see p.10, 12, 13, 272, 273, 394, etc.) and "A G" [i.e. Andrea Galvani] countermark (see p.20, 112, 113, 392, etc.), dense and sturdy, only lightly burnished ; minor pest damage. Decoration: Headings and some keywords rubricated, others in dark red / brown, blue or green ; written area surrounded by dark red / brown double rule-border (with blue rule defining margin of incipit and facing page) ; textual dividers in the form of red inverted commas. Script: Maghribī ; elegant hand in a fine line, mainly serifless with sweeping descenders, effect of some ascenders tilting to the right, pointing in distinct dots, etc. Layout: Written in 17 lines per page ; frame-ruled. Collation: i, 19 V(190), V-1 (199) ; exclusively quinions ; final leaf now partly affixed to lower board lining ; catchwords present ; pagination in pencil, Western numerals, supplied during digitization (includes front flyleaf and skips two pages between pp.317-318). Colophon: "Scribal," reads "حرر في ربيع الاول سنة ١٢٨٦" Explicit: "سبحان ربك رب العزة عما يصفون وسلام على المرسلين والحمد لله رب العالمين ... كمل الكتاب المبارك بحمد الله تعالى وحسن عونه والصلاة والسلام على من لا نبي بعده ..." Incipit: "الحمد لله الذي جعل قلوب اوليائه محل معرفته ... وبعد فيقول العبد الفقير لمولاه الراجي مغفرته ورحمته ورضاه حمدون بن محمد الشريف الحسيني الجوطي لما دعاني منادي السعادة بلسان حاله على الافادة ... فيسر الله تعالى علي الطريق وقادني التوفيق الى معرفة القطب الامام ... مولانا الطيب بن القطب العارف بالله ... سيدي محمد بن القطب الكامل ... مولانا عبد الله الشريف الحسيني العلمي اليملاحي فاخذت عنه بواسطة تلميذه الشريف ... وكنت الازم الشيخ مولاي قاسم المذكور فاسمع منه اشارات وحكايات ينقلها عن ساداتنا المذكورين ... وسميته تحفة الاخوان ببعض مناقب شرفاء وزان ..."
