Ms. 130 Origin: Lacks dated scribal colophon ; paper may suggest late 18th or early 19th century. As appears in authorial colophon on p.722, composition completed 5 Ramaḍān 1168 [ca. 15 June 1755]. Accompanying materials: Slips with notes (paginated pp.289-290 and pp.429-430). Former shelfmark: British Museum, London "No. 42. Commentary on Kafiyah." Binding: Pasteboards covered in dark maroon leather ; Type II binding (with flap) ; board linings in yellow laid paper ; flyleaves in orange laid paper ; upper and lower covers bears blind-stamped and gold-painted scalloped mandorla and pendants with floral vegetal composition (compare Déroche class. NSd 7), accompanied by tooled and gold-painted accents and guilloché roll border, design continues on fore-edge flap and envelope flap ; sewn in mauve thread, two stations ; worked endbands in pink and yellow, damaged but intact ; in fair to poor condition with minor abrasion, lifting and losses of leather at spine and fore-edge flap, though upper cover completely is detached and spine is split (textblock held together by headband only) ; housed in box for protection. Support: European laid paper with 10 laid lines per cm. (horizontal) and chain lines spaced 25 mm. apart (vertical) ; roughly first half of quires well-burnished to glossy ; watermark and/or countermark with name or initials only partially visible. Decoration: Elegant headpiece (ʻunwān) in red and pink on incipit page (p.2) consisting of rectangular piece carrying the basmalah, surmounted by scalloped semi-circular piece (dome) filled with floral decoration and itself surmounted by vertical stalks (tīgh) ; keywords, section headings, abbreviations, and notabilia (side-heads) rubricated ; overlining and occasional textual dividers in the form of discs in red ; written area surrounded by red rule-border. Script: Naskh ; clear, well-formed Turkish hand ; seriffed with mainly right-sloping head serifs on virtually all vertical shafts, even free-standing alif ; slight effect of tilt to the left ; open and closed counters. Layout: Written in 17 lines per page ; frame-ruled.
