Notlar As indicated by the inscription included in its double-pagefrontispiece(only the left half of which is shown here), this splendid little manuscript was produced for the library of the Aq Qoyunlu Turcoman ruler,SultanKhalil, who reigned briefly in 1478, from Tabriz in Western Iran. Considering its finecalligraphyand miniatures, extensive illumination and magnificent binding, this small but highly precious book of poems must surely rank amongst the finest Islamic manuscripts ever produced. Nothing is known of the poet, though he may be theAmirHidayat who was in the employ of thesultan. The text is in Chagatay Turkish.
