This copy of Ali Şîr Nevâî'sDivan, a collection of poems written under his pseudonym, Fânî, is datedHegira943 / AD 1536–1537, and is signed by Mir Ali al-Bukhârî. It is written in Chagatai Turkish inNastaliqcalligraphyin two columns on papers of various colours with different patterns andzerefşan(gold leaf).On page 1a is a text written in a circular medallion with superscript text. This states that the work was prepared for AbdülazîzKhan, b. UbeydullahKhan, one of the rulers of the Shaybânî Dynasty, an Islamic dynasty that ruled in Mâverâünnehir, Khârezm andKhorasan. At the top of the same page is the seal ofSultanMahmud I's foundation, and below it is the seal of Derviş Mustafa Efendi, inspector of Evkaf. On the following facing pages is a scene of entertainment in the countryside. The title page is decorated with floral and geometric motifs. There are a total of eight miniatures in the work.The binding comprises two covers, the outer of which is leather over cardboard. It is decorated with Chinese clouds and various floral motifs on a gilt ground. The inner cover is made of brown leather, and the backgrounds of borders, corners, and edges of panels are navy blue. These sections with navy blue grounds are decorated with floral motifs obtained by thekat’ı(paper cutting) technique.
