The work begins with praise written in the centre of a multicoloured gilded illumination on a navy blue background on facing pages. All pages containing the eulogy and inscriptions on the pages with miniatures are illuminated in the style of Beynes Sudûr. All chapters in theShahnamehbegin with the illumination of the title page. The white text written above and below the miniatures and enclosed in an illuminated frame at the end of theShahnamehstates that theShahnameh, which tells the history of Persia, was completed in seven years, that 12 of the most famous artists of the period worked on it, and that it was written by Mehmed al-Kâtib inShiraz. The illumination of the work was by MehmedbinHüseyin ofShirazin 1549. The book, one of the most distinguished works of the period, is notable for its intricate miniatures created in a superior technique characteristic of theShahTahmasb period. These miniatures were made by calligraphers andmusehhepinShiraz, for centuries a centre of the art of miniatures. Consequently, the decorative style of theShiraz-Turkmenminiature school, evident in works created inShirazduring the first half of the 16th century, is also noteworthy in this work. It is characterised by thin, elongated and elegant figures.
