Elegant copy of a treatise on Ḥanafī law. The text is preceded on fol. 1b-7a by a description of contents. | Ms. codex., Title from end of text (fol. 287a)., Physical description: 19 lines. Written in nastaʻlīq in black ink with use of red; gold for entries and text stops on fol. 1b-7b. The text is framed in gold and outlined in black. Dark cream paper with laid lines and fibers visible. Several inscriptions and short excerpts on the page. (i)a-(ii)b, including ownership statements., Decoration: Illuminated headpieces (ʻunwān) on fol. 1b and 7b, elegantly executed in gold, red, blue, light blue and white., Origin: According to colophon, copied by Faḍl Allāh ibn Muḥammad in Qusṭantinīyah, and completed on Thursday 10 Shawwāl 1002 [June 1594] (fol. 287a)., Incipit: Praise be to God and peace be upon His servants who He chose, and after, when God Almighty facilitated the completion of the book of similarities and analogues of jurisprudence according to the Hanafi school of thought, which includes seven types, I wanted to index it at the beginning so that it would be easy to examine it. The first is the art of the first rules, Incipit main text (fol. 7b): Praise be to God for what He has bestowed, and may God’s blessings and peace be upon our master Muhammad. And after that, jurisprudence is the most noble of sciences in value and the greatest in reward, Explicit: On the Top of Two Trees So it is cut into two halves [287a], may God Almighty have mercy on him. This is the last of what we reported from the book Al-Ashbah wa Al-Nazair fi jurisprudence according to the doctrine of the greatest Imam and the most honorable figure, Abu Hanifa Al-Nu’man bin Thabit... The completion of its composition took place on the twenty-seventh of Jumada al-Akhirah in the year nine hundred and sixty-nine, and the duration of its composition was six months, interspersed with days of bodily malaise. Praise be to God for its completion, and may God’s blessings be upon them... May God Almighty’s blessings be upon them. The covers have a gold stamped central scalloped mandorla filled with a floral arabesque left plain. The border is not visible on the covers due to repair.
