Notlar Limestone talatat block, carved in sunk relief, depicting portions of two trees, a pair of cattle feeding from a basket and two human figures, one of which is playing a double flute. The block joins the top of a pastoral scene consisting of three blocks (86.226.30; 2019.13; and MMA 68.16). The top of the proper right corner contains two cows feeding on a plant. Only four legs of the cows and their heads are visible in the fragment. The cows are bent low over the plant which emerges from a semicircular shaped basket. The bottoom of the proper right part of the block depicts the top of a tree, with a second tree taking up much of the proper left side of the block. The bottom center and proper left side of the block contain heads of two human figures, one playing a double flute. Condition: The talatat is fragmentary, with a triangular chip missing in the bottom proper lefthand corner of the limestone block.The edges appear worn. | more | less
