Notlar Green faience base of a rhyton in form of a roaring lion. Lion frontal with extended (missing) paws. Between paws a circular opening originally supplied with a moulding. Mouth and eyes outlined in purplish-bluish-black glaze. Teeth and tongue modeled in detail. Roof of mouth has detailed ridges. Traces of red paint (or glaze?) on tongue and mouth. Wrinkles above nose indicated by zig-zag lines Base of object slightly convex. Body of rhyton almost entirely missing, but interior was glazed. Interior of vessel narrows to circular opening of about 2.5 cm. diameter and again enlarges to entire interior of head section. Condition: Fragmentary. Front paws mostly missing. Lower jaw chipped. | more | less
