Örnek Metin "This map, published in Berlin in July 1916, shows the Turkish theater of World War I. It is based on an 1884 map in French of the Asian provinces of the Ottoman Empire by German geographer and cartographer Heinrich Kiepert (1818-99). The map contains additional notes in German and its coverage of existing and projected railroads is updated to 1916. The Ottoman territories, shown in pink, include present-day Turkey, Cyprus, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, and Jordan, as well as Saudi Arabia. The Ottoman Empire, or Turkey as it was also known, entered the war on the side of Germany and Austria-Hungary and against Great Britain, France, and Russia in October 1914. Among the places indicated on the map is Gallipoli, the site of a bitter battle between Turkish and British, French, and Allied forces that took place between April 25, 1915, and January 9, 1916. A red line marks the Dodecanese Islands and surrounding seas, which were seized from the Ottoman Empire by Italy in 1912 during the Italian-Turkish War over Libya, and which were used as a staging area for the British and French fleets in the Gallipoli campaign. The table in the lower left provides the names of geographical features in Turkish, Arabic, Persian, Greek, and three Slavic languages (Bulgarian, Serbian, and Russian) and their equivalents in French."
