Notlar
1 bamboo strip — bamboo — This letter is difficult to understand. It is written by a certain Raja Pinangsori
(?) and addressed to Tuan Sitarik (Secretary ?). Mentioned are 17 workers (Parkuli).
We can hence assume that this letter also relates to the construction of a new road
(cf. Schoem. VIII 5a). Cf. VOHD XXVIII, 208. The three above-mentioned letters, Schoem. VIII 4, Schoem. VIII 5a and 5b were presumably
written towards the middle of the nineteenth century when the Batak lands were still
independent, and Siboga, now known as Sibolga, on Sumatra's west coast served as the
administrative capital for the region. Siunong-unong is a village in the valley of
Bangkara (Bakti Raja district, Humbang Hasundutan regency), approximately 110 km from
Sibolga.
