Notlar A pair of brown, flat, child’s leather ankle boots. Egyptian, ca. AD700-1000 (possibly). Semi-pointed toe and round heel. Turned technique with rand. Sole: Straight. Sole turns up at back to create heel. Heel is defined by sole’s end and rand strips either side. Upper: Ankle piece is same piece as vamp/ quarters. Another strip (15mm at throat, 6mm at heel) of leather appears above the heel and quarters with surrounding topband that resembles the rand. This strip connects heel and quarters to the ankle piece. It is triangular at the throat. The ankle piece connects at the backseam with a strip of leather, also resembling the rand. The topband of ankle piece is serrated. Triangular piece is sewn into top, lateral back of ankle piece which attaches to the backseam.
