Carpet fragment of woven wool. WARP: cream wool; Z3S'; 13 threads per inch (52 per dm). WEFT: black wool; Z2S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 9 knots per inch (31 per dm). PILE: wool; 7 colours: dark red, red, yellow, green, blue, black, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 59 knots per sq. inch (806 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: Left, cut. Right: web of 3 paired warp threads worked with additional yellow wool. END FINISH: cut DESIGN: Field: black (corroded) ground with three red and two white stars along the length. Each contains an octagon with an internal, hooked motif. Ground filled with geometric motifs - small diamonds, S shapes, crosses, etc. Main border: white ground with red/green 'crab' motif. Inner border: yellow ground with rosettes. Outer border: black ground with rosettes.
