Asmalyk N.B. Woven from the tip WARP: light brown wool: Z2S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 25 knots per inch (92 per dm). PILE: wool; 7 colours: red, yellow, green, dark blue, dark purple, black, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 225 knots per sq. inch (3082 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: Lower: maximum of 2.5 cms. plain weave with white weft, turned and stitched into place. Upper: as the lower one with a wedge of red weft in the top left corner. DESIGN: Field: arch-shaped panel in centre containing stepped lozenge framed by four narrow diagonal bands and then by bands of white zigzag. Above this arch is a border of coloured lozenges. Main border: white ground with linked, angular S-motifs. Inner and outer borders: reciprocal hooks in blue and red outlined in yellow. Date catalogued: 29.6.94

"Mr Tatterstall (sic) kindly drew our attention to these fragments of Persian carpets and tent-bags. Their fine knotting, their design, and their size ... make them especially useful in travelling collections. The price is very reasonable".
