Camel Bag: woven by the Sumaq method in wool on a woollen warp Caucasian (Derbend): middle of 19th century. The bag is cistern shaped with square ends and oblong sides and bottom. The ends and sides have three wide and four narrow horizontal bands with geometric patterns in various colours. The bottom has plain stripes. There are loops along the top edges, and a leather handle at each end.

Kensington, Purchased for £2. "Soumak Camel-bag, Derbend" " The .... piece comes from the neighbourhood of Derbend in Caucasia. It is a cistern-shaped camel bag, finely woven in the Soumak technique and complete with the original leather and woollen handles." CECT to D? JBW.
