Lower part of the right front panel of a child's kaftan, Italy or Turkey, early 16th century

Fiziksel açıklama
Part of a katfan. The lower part (from the waist) of the right front panel of a child's kaftan. There is one triangular panel attached along the right side. There is no lining but there s a piece of blue cotton along the right edge on the reverse - this was part of the facing for a pocket opening. The fabric is a woven silk with pink warp and yellow weft and with a metal strip used as a supplementary weft. The pattern is Italianate with linked scrolling stems and stylised flowers. On the front there is a piece of metal braid which had been roughly stitched across the opening of the kaftan with red thread. This was to prevent the garment from falling open when it was displayed on top of a tomb. This is probably the lower part of T.163-2000.
Üretim
This is probably from the collection of kaftans acquired in 1884. They are said to have come from royal tombs in Bursa.
