Malzemeler ve teknikler Wool Cotton
Fiziksel açıklama Turkish (Ghiordes) single niche carpet, cut and rejoined WARP: white wool; Z2S; 22 threads per inch (81 per dm). WEFT: (a) white cotton; Z spun, unplied; 2 parallel threads per shoot, (b) blue wool; Z spun, unplied; 2 parallel threads per shoot; 2 shoots after each row of knots; number of knots varies but averages 16 per inch (65 per dm). Blue woollen weft is used in the central panel to enhance the undecorated pile. "Lazy lines" at the junction of the two types of weft. PILE: wool and cotton: 10 colours: dark red, red, light red, light green, olive green, dark blue, blue, light blue, dark brown, white (cotton; symmetrical knot tied around 2 threads; 176 knots per sq. inch (2633 per sq. dm). SIDE FINISH: incomplete with evidence of one thin cord with returned weft; was probably oversewn. END FINISH: missing. DESIGN: described as woven. Field: red ground with a blue rectangular panel with a curving triangular niche. There is a narrow white inner border from which comes small white flowers outlined in red; there is an outer band in olive green which expands beyond the apex of the niche into a hooked and horned motif. Outside the panel the field contains five bands of a leafed sprig in blue or light green. The field continues as a narrow red band around the panel and has its own border of white ground with alternating dark brown and blue crosses. There is a band beyond the lower edge of the field with dark blue ground and two large blue and two large red S-motifs. The blue ones include a dark red cartouche; the red ones include three small leaves. The panel has its own border of light green ground with a leafy meander. Above the upper end of the field is a second panel with dark red ground with two red palmettes, with white details, on either side of a white "vase" with a red carnation and two buds. This panel has its own border of white ground with blue sprigs with a large red blossom. Borders: there are seven borders, described from the inside: (1), (3), (5) and (7): (1) also encloses the upper panel and its border. Light red ground with white zigzag. (2) dark red ground with blossoms and leaves on a central axis. (4) white ground with a repeated design of a blue base with a dark red stem with red flowers and flanked by a pair of flowers and separated from the next motif by a horixontal branch bearing blue flowers. In the two long sides the motifs hang downwards; in the lower and upper parts the direction alternates. (6) as (2) but on a blue ground.
