WARP: cream and brown wool plied together to make 6" of the warp; Z3S; 14/15 threads per inch (58 per dm). WEFT: cream wool;. Z2S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 8-10 knots per inch (34-40 dm). PILE: wool; 13 colours: red, light red, orange, dark yellow, green/yellow, dark blue, blue, light blue, purple, light purple, dark brown, brown/black, white; symmetrical knot tied around 2 warp threads; 65 knots per sq. inch (986-1160 per dm( 1073 av.) SIDE FINISH: 2 cords overcast in various coloured wool. END FINISH: Lower: cut. Upper: cut but with remnants of small, slit tapestry blocks. DESIGN: Field: dark blue ground with scattered motifs and a central row of two and a half octagons containing hooked motifs. Main border: white ground with meander of stylised flowers and leaves. Inner border: red ground with blue squares. Outer border: yellow ground with blue squares. NB: paired piece has light red ground here. Catalogue date: 27.2.91
