Ikat dyeing is a speciality of the cities of Uzbekistan, especially Bukhara and Samarqand. Ikat is a resist-dyeing technique in which the warp threads (and sometimes also the wefts) are tie-dyed to create the pattern before the fabric is woven. Robes like this were made for Uzbek men.
