ملاحظات
This outfit, made up of a jacket, skirt and belt is made of purple silk velvet and embroidered with silver and gilt thread. It dates to the late 19th century and belonged to the female member of a wealthy and important family in Shiraz, southern Iran. The ornate decoration and tailoring is typical of female fashion in Iran at this time. This was a remarkable period for emerging modernity in Iranian style, which combined national conservatism with modifications of western designs. Although there is evidence the skirt was altered at some time, its excellent condition tells us it was rarely worn and that the outfit was probably a gift, or soghati, brought by visitors.
