یادداشت‌ها Earrings, in a wide variety of designs, were worn by women throughout the Islamic world. This example was described as ‘Modern Egyptian’ when it was acquired by the Museum in 1869, and the hollow pendant with three vertical bars is characteristic of that country. In more recent times the use of this pattern was only found among the women of the remote western oases, such as Bahariya, but it is quite credible that they were worn over a wider area in the 19th century. This earring was described as having the name halak when it was acquired, which is a generic Arabic name for earrings.
