Objects cast in bronze and brass that convey religious messages such as the Basmala or the Shahada in Chinese Sini calligraphy were popular in the Xuande and Zhengde eras of the Ming rule, and during the 18th and 19th centuries AD (12th and 13th centuries AH), Chinese silversmiths introduced Islamic designs into the silver pieces they produced for export to foreign markets.
