Notlar	יחיאל חבשוש נולד בצנעא בשנת 1911, לאביו אהרן ולאמו נעמה. הוא למד אצל הרב אלעזר קרח ולאחר מכן אצל הרב יחיא קאפח. סבו, סליאמן חבשוש, הקים וניהל את הפעילות המסחרית הענפה של המשפחה החל משנת 1883. הפעילות התרחבה בהדרגה מצנעא לערים נוספות בתימן, ולאחר מות הסב בשנת 1922 הפך העסק המשפחתי לפירמה מאורגנת בשם "בני סלימאן חבשוש" שפעילותה התרחבה לכל המזרח התיכון, הים האדום והאוקיינוס ההודי. בשנת 1930 עלה יחיאל לארץ ישראל, ועבד בסניף של החברה ביפו ולאחר מכן בתל אביב. יחיאל עסק גם בפעילות ציבורית וחלוצית ענפה, בקלוב הפועלים התימנים, בהקמת ארגון "עזרת אחים" ובייסוד קרן לעלייה מתימן ולהצלת יתומים. לאחר שנתפרדה הפירמה "בני סלימאן חבשוש" ב-1942, הקים עם אחיו את הפירמה "בני אהרן חבשוש", ובית המסחר פעל גם בענייני ציבור. ב-1970 עבר לניו יורק ונרתם לעזרת יוצאי תימן שם. סייע גם לשרידי היהודים בתימן ונסע אליהם כמה פעמים. הוא פרסם עשרות ספרים, ביניהם: 'יחיא התימני' (1984), מהדורת פקסימיליה של תאג' עתיק (1985), 'משפחת חבשוש' (1986-1985), 'שני המאורות הגדולים - ר' יחיא קאפח ור' יחיא יצחק הלוי' (1989-1987), 'שארית הפליטה בתימן' (1990), ועוד. נפטר בשנת 2002 ונקבר בירושלים. הארכיון נרשם והונגש באדיבות צאצאי יחיאל חבשוש, לזכר דויד טוב בן חנינא ואיימי חבשוש, ובתמיכת קרן סאמיס, סיאטל, וושינגטון. Yechiel Hibshoosh (Ḥabshoosh), son of Aharon and Naama Hibshoosh, was born in Sana’a in 1911. He studied with Rabbi Elazar Qorah and afterwards with Rabbi Yihye Qapah. His grandfather, Suleiman Hibshoosh, founded and ran the extensive family business from 1883 onwards. The business expanded slowly from Sana’a to additional cities in Yemen, and after the death of Suleiman in 1922, the family business was restructured and was called “Suleiman Hibsoosh Sons". Its activities spanned the area of the Middle East, the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean. In 1930 Yechiel moved to Eretz Israel and started work in the firm’s branch in Jaffa, moving later on to the Tel Aviv branch. Yechiel was also involved in extensive public and pioneering activities on behalf of Yemenite workers, including the establishment of the “Ezrat Achim” organization and the foundation of the fund for aliya from Yemen and the rescue of orphans. Following the break up of ““Suleiman Hibshoosh Sons” in 1942, Yechiel and his brothers founded a company called “Aharon Hibshoosh Sons”, and the commercial company was also involved in public affairs. In 1970 Yechiel moved to New York and was engaged in helping Yemenite immigrants there. He also helped the remaining Jews in Yemen and visited them there more than once. He published tens of books including: “Yihye the Yemenite” (1984), a facsimile edition of an ancient Taj (Yemenite Pentateuch) (1985), “The Hibshush Family” (1985-1986), “Two Great Luminaries – Rabbi Yihye Qapah and Rabbi Yihye Yitzchak Halevi” (1987-1989), and “The Jews Left in Yemen” (1990). Yechiel Hibshoosh died in 2002 and was buried in Jerusalem. The archive contains, among other things, large numbers of documents concerning Yechiel Hibshoosh (Ḥabshoosh) and his family’s business activities, his public activities on behalf of Yemenite immigrants in Israel and abroad, mainly within the framework of the Ezrat Achim organization, and drafts of books and articles that he authored and published.
