Notlar The letter opens with the sentence; ‘…I wrote (i.e. write) this letter out of the concern of [my] heart. May God the Sublime make the outcome good.’ He goes on to say that he is writing to inform his master that he arrived in Qūṣ (Upper Egypt), ‘and that I found that the judge (al-qāḍī) had denied them what they wanted.’ The writer explains that he then left for ʿAyḏāb (Sudan). Towards the end of the letter, the writer explains that he opened the storehouse and took out the ʿadāl and sold an ʿadl of pepper out of them (i.e. the ʿadāl).
