Notlar The volume is bound in modern blue and dark blue leather, with the inscription on the spine: Shah-namah. Firdausi. Persian Manuscript. 14th c. (sic). The ms. has been remargined, with very thin paper margins and several modern pages of flyleaves; the text is on 'native glazed paper' (Simsar). An Indian numbering of the folios is found in the columns, but the whole ms. has been paginated by Ms. Bilha Moor (November 2008). The pages appear to be more or less out of order.Marginal rulings are in gold, red and blue. Rubrics are in red, but often omitted. There are two illuminated unvans on ff. 3v and 268v, at the start of the two sections of the text. Simsar records several blank pages, especially before the division of the text at fol. 268.There are only four illustrations, but each is faced by a page of sumptuous marginal decoration and gilded text; and on the reverse of each page with a picture is a floral design in gold and colours. The paintings are of the late Mughal school, all of which have been retouched.See the catalogue by Simsar, pp. 84-5.

The preceding line (at the end of f. 5v), however, is located in the passage in the Introduction, in praise of Sultan Mahmud; it is conceivable that the artist intended to portray Mahmud in this guise.Location in text:Mohl 0, Introduction, first line: None, break line before: 229, break line after: None, last line: None.Rustam lifts Afrasiyab by the beltFolio number: 048vNotes: The breaklines still need to be established from the surrounding pages. The lines before and after the painting, on ff. 52v and 54r, are from the third khwan, in which Rustam and Rakhsh fight a dragon; however, the iconography here clearly concerns the earlier test, in which Rakhsh kills the lion while Rustam is asleep.Location in text:Mohl 12, Kay Kavus (150 years), first line: None, break line before: 378, break line after: 379.0, last line: None.Decoration on reverse of paintingScene Title:Illuminated pageFolio number: 055vLocation in text:Mohl -1a, Illuminations, first line: None, break line before: None, break line after: None, last line: None.Rustam's sixth labour: he kills ArzhangScene Title:Rustam's sixth labour: he kills ArzhangFolio number: 058rNotes: The breaklines before and after the picture, on the bottom of f. 54v and top of f. 56r, are illegible from the poor images available, but the subject seems clear, as noted by Simsar.
