Süsleme Zahhak consults physiciansTitle (Persian): 188Folio number: 001rPainter:NaqdiNotes: Previously identified (in Geneva) as 2005.1.71 (Ir.M. 29/A). Opaque watercolour, gold, silver and ink on paper; attributed to Naqdi. The illustration has been repeatedly misidentified, as depicting Jamshid, following Robinson's original description, although Anthony Welch correctly noted that it depicts Zahhak. The rubric refers to the scene in which Zahhak is established on the throne, shortly before ordering Jamshid to be sawn in half, but the painting appears to reflect the earlier passage where the ruler consults his physicians. Page dimensions: 455 x 304. Text dimensions (verso side): 175 x 177 mm. See also under Dispersed. Location in text:Mohl 4, Jamshid (700 years), first line: 167, break line before: 192, break line after: None, last line: 192.Salm and Tur send a message to FaridunFolio number: 002rPainter:Sadiqi BegNotes: Previously identified (in Geneva) as 2005.1.99 (Ir.M. 69). The break-line verse is not in the standard editions. The page has been trimmed off across the bottom. Reproduced in Welch, Artists for the Shah, pl. 5.Location in text:Mohl 6, Faridun (500 years), first line: 345, break line before: 364, break line after: None, last line: 364.Pashang learns of the death of ManuchihrFolio number: 003rPainter:SadiqiNotes: Previously identified (in Geneva) as 2005.1.72 (Ir.M. 29/B). The third verse after the painting is not in the standard editions. Opaque watercolour, gold and ink on paper; a folio from Shah Isma'il Safavi's Shahnama, attributed to Sadiqi Beg. Page dimensions: 456 x 305. Text (verso side): 304 x 182 mm. Reproduced in Marteau & Vever, 1913, no. 128; ex-Kevorkian collection, lot 66; Sotheby's sale, 1 December 1969; A. Welch, Collection of Islamic art, vol. 1, p. 173; Colnaghi, 1976, no. 5.Location in text:Mohl 8, Nauzar (7 years), first line: 102, break line before: 104, break line after: 105.0, last line: 108.Khaleghi-Motlagh 8, Nauzar (559), first line: 89.0, break line before: 91.0, break line after: 92.0, last line: 95.0.Rustam's third labour: he kills a dragonFolio number: 004rPainter:Sadiqi BegNotes: Formerly identified (in Geneva) as 2005.1.100 (Ir.M. 69/A). Page dimensions 429 x 306 (Museum site lists 430x301); there is no verso: the folio has been trimmed and pasted onto card by Demotte. The painting is usually described as depicting Alkus being fought and killed by Rustam, but in fact it occurs much earlier in the text, when the Iranian hunting party is surprised by the attack of a large force of Turanians. On the margins of the page is the account of the interpolated story of Pilsam's fight with the Iranians - only after which, is Alkus involved.. The scribe has inadvertently jumped from Mohl 12b: 661 to 711 in the passage below the painting, the intervening gap being largely filled by the Pilsam episode; the text here departs in various places from Mohl's edition but is essentially the same.
